A shocking bust in Bengaluru has revealed a drug peddling operation with a Nigerian national at its center. The Bandepalya Police made a significant arrest, bringing to light the illicit activities of Chebugo Gadwin, a 45-year-old Nigerian man. But how did he get here, and what was he doing? Let's dive in.
Acting on a tip-off received on October 30th, the police swooped in near Somasandrapalya Lake. Gadwin was apprehended, and the investigation began. Gadwin's story is one of shifting circumstances. He arrived in India back in 2018 on a business visa, initially involved in the garment trade in Delhi. However, about three months before his arrest, he relocated to Bengaluru and began living with an acquaintance. This is where things took a dark turn.
Allegedly, Gadwin started buying MDMA tablets and cocaine at low prices from an unidentified supplier within the city. He then sold these substances at inflated prices to college students and other customers. The police seized a substantial amount of drugs, including 752 grams of MDMA tablets and 8 grams, and 37 milligrams of cocaine powder. They also confiscated a two-wheeler used in his illegal trade. The estimated value of the seized contraband? A staggering ₹75 lakh! Gadwin was presented before the court on October 31st and subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
In a separate incident, the Malleswaram police also made an arrest. Acting on information about drug peddling near the Jataka Stand on R.P. Road, they apprehended an individual. The accused, who was from another state, had come to Bengaluru for his education. But here's where it gets controversial: Facing financial difficulties, particularly with college fees, he turned to the drug trade. He purchased ganja and hashish at a low price and sold them for profit.
The police seized 360 grams of ganja, 1,250 ml of weed oil, a weighing machine, a mobile phone, and ₹1,500 in cash. The total value of these items was estimated at ₹15.8 lakh. A case was registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the accused was also remanded in judicial custody.
